I haven't done a good job keeping up with that, but this week's piece was particularly off schedule. Why? Because I realized that the sequence of events I was working with was paced very poorly.

In this chapter, I break Varin down. However, I haven't actually built him up yet, so breaking him down so early doesn't make a lot of sense. How can you damage what hasn't yet been built? If I weren't publishing this in pieces as I go, I would have stepped back and rearranged the sequence of events in my outline and moved this bit to a place that made more sense. However, since Part 3 was already published... I couldn't take that back. It was out there. I built up to the events of Part 4. So I decided to roll with it, even if it makes the narrative pretty janky.

If I finish this and opt to publish it as an ebook or whatever, I'll probably go the path of a Director's Cut and move this to later on in the story. The events within it will be largely the same, but it will be moved to a more appropriate location in the narrative.

As always, critique is welcome.

Re: Neva Cora – Prelude

I don't really have any useful criticism to give you but I just wanted to leave a comment to say this was really interesting and I enjoyed it a lot.
Please post more!

Re: Fishing in Union Station

Life's a game; you can complain about the deck you've been given or you can play.
First, the charcoal man: the description sounds similar to graphite but when you said the statue breaks up into cubes then I realized what it was...a mineral with a glossy greasy appearance that that fractures into cubes...is the mineral Galena.

Galena is incidentally, the state mineral of Wisconsin. It's chemical formula is PbS, lead sulfide.

The "mystical" connotations associated with Galena are: balancing stone used to strengthen and balance human energy, helping to create a state of being where your spiritual, physical and mental powers are working together harmoniously for the highest good of all; helps when working towards goals; assists in protection during spiritual journeys

My little theory about this: You have something watching over you as you make your way forwards on some sort of spiritual journey...but you're a man of logic, and part of you knows that "greasy charcoal" is actually galena which has a high lead content...hence...no touchy...but this distortions you see in the faces of others probably corresponds to a changing view of the world around you, things aren't what you thought they were...somehow..it's all a big uglier...but because it is your journey, no one else can see what you see, this path was meant for only you.

The fact that the dreams are becoming more lucid as time goes by, I think, proves that something is changing and you are moving forwards with some...type of journey. Where to though, hell, do we ever really know?

Good luck.

Re: Hey Alex, whatcha readin’? #2

Thanks a lot for featuring my videos on WoW Insider!

Re: The beginning of a thing

loved it :)

Re: The beginning of a thing

Can't wait to read the rest!

Re: The beginning of a thing

Very nice story i would love to read more.

Re: Oaths — Excerpt 1

I wouldn't say that it's dry, just that there hasn't been a...big hook I guess? We actually lost the recipes from my Grandmother's time due to a house fire. We lost things from 1935-1975. So now what we've been doing is gathering common recipes from that time period as well as things my aunts and uncle remembered being made and putting them into a cookbook like you have.

It's something my mom put together and I'm thrilled that she made a copy for myself and my brother. That's something you might think of doing. Make some copies of the recipes, bind them and give them to extended family as an heirloom type item.

Re: Making you hungry one blog post at a time

Thanks Alex!
In any case, the mere idea of an ocean of liquid diamond blows my mind. And yes, I do believe it's time for us to gas up the spaceships and head for Uranus... Untapped resources anyone? If, of course, we can survive the atmospheric pressure long enough to get to it O.o

While I find translations and interpretations of religious texts particularly fascinating, it seems a tad sensationalized. I'd like to see her other evidence for bara being used to mean "separate", though.

This interpretation does kinda mess up John 1:1-3, though. Heh.

Re: Theologian suggests God organized, not created

"Faith doesn’t work that way" I found that an interesting comment. I had faith that Pluto was a spacial body (planet or not) and then new evidence came to light that it was in fact two spacial bodies. I have no direct evidence of this and so pretty much take it on faith to be true. It's pretty easy for me to change that faith because it's based on (advancing) scientific understanding.

I guess I could buy "Blind faith doesn't work that way".

Interesting article though. Constant revisits to scripture are bound to happen though. The world is more and more demanding of deeper understanding but that's something religion isn't great at. The world and universe are richer and deeper mines of wonder for me whereas religions are drawing on what seems an ever shallower well.

Re: A question for the ages

Hmm, I'm gonna have to stick with my favorite which is Gabumon.
